Hyundai has used this trend smartly, setting a new record that surprised rivals and proved how fast the Indian car market is evolving.

Hyundai’s big record

Hyundai Motor India has declared an impressive feat. In five years, it sold over 11 lakh sunroof vehicles in the Indian market. The gigantic figure illustrates how Indian consumers are now associating sunroofs with premium feel and fashionable looks. A rare feature in high-priced cars once, sunroofs have soon become a standard pick, even on cars starting at ₹10 lakh.

Sales trend in 2025

As per Hyundai, one out of each second car they sold in India in 2024-25 featured a sunroof. The same was the case with the first half of 2025, when 54 percent of domestic sales by Hyundai were contributed by sunroof models. This strongly indicates customers are being lured more by trendy designs and additional comfort features that ensure a pleasurable daily drive.

Increased demand for sunroof features

Hyundai has introduced sunroof variants throughout its portfolio. Among 14 models available in India, 12 have a sunroof available as an option. This has allowed the company to make sunroof feature available across all budgets and segments, making premium accessible to additional customers. Hyundai also commenced local production of panoramic sunroofs, which cut costs and made it more accessible, providing a further boost to its numbers.
