Hyundai Sales: Hyundai’s SUV game remained strong in May 2025 despite an overall drop in total sales. With its trio of Creta, Venue, and Exter, the brand managed to retain dominance in the market. These three models alone accounted for a massive chunk of Hyundai’s overall numbers, proving their solid market appeal.

Hyundai May Sales Overview

Hyundai sold 43,861 units in May 2025 with a decrease of approximately 1% from April’s selling of 44,374 units. On a year-over-year basis, the drop is steeper at 11%, as 49,151 units were sold in May 2024. The company sees this drop as a result of scheduled maintenance and planned operational activities.

Creta: The Market Leader Nobody Saw Coming

Hyundai Creta continues to lead the mid-size SUV segment. It was the best performer for the company in May, delivering the highest volumes among all vehicles. Year-on-year, Creta recorded a humble 1% growth, betraying its strength. Nevertheless, volumes fell 13% on a month-on-month basis, reflecting the wider slowdown in the market.

Venue: A Segment Under Pressure

The sub-compact SUV Hyundai Venue witnessed a steady decline. It sold 7,520 units in May 2025, down by a 19% decline from the corresponding month last year. Month-on-month, it dropped by 5%, indicating increased competition in the segment from peers such as Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon.

Exter: Micro SUV Faces Headwinds

The Hyundai Exter, once a strong performer in the micro SUV segment, also showed signs of fatigue in May. Sales dropped to 5,899 units, representing a steep 23% decline compared to May 2024. This decline points toward shifting consumer interest and stronger alternatives in the market.

Combined SUV Impact on Hyundai’s Sales

Together, Creta, Venue, and Exter sold over 28,000 units, contributing around 65% to Hyundai’s total sales for May. This clearly positions Hyundai’s SUV lineup as the core strength of the brand. Even with market fluctuations, these models have held their ground and continue to drive customer trust and loyalty.

Market Competition and Future Outlook

Hyundai’s current SUV success is noteworthy, but competition is heating up. Rivals like Tata Punch, Maruti Brezza, and Nexon are gaining traction, posing a challenge to Venue and Exter. Hyundai may need to introduce updates or special editions to maintain interest and defend its market share.
