Silk Production- State government takes a big step about Silk Production. The state government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set a target of connecting 7,500 group members with silk production in the annual action plan of the current financial year (2025-26) through the State Rural Livelihood Mission. According to a statement, this initiative is a big step towards rural employment generation and realizing the dream of self-reliant India.

To increase silk production, the government has formulated a strategy to ensure intensive implementation in 15 districts in the current financial year. Training, modern technology and financial assistance will be provided in these districts to make silk farmers and producers competitive for the global market. This effort of the UP government is to connect the traditional industry with new technology and innovation, which will strengthen the rural economy.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been signed between the State Rural Livelihood Mission and the Silk Department to increase the participation of women in silk production. Under this agreement, a target has been set to connect 50,000 members of 5,000 women groups to silk production and industry in the next five years. According to the statement, the UP government has given priority to this scheme to empower rural youth and women. Seeds, equipment and marketing assistance will be provided to the groups involved in silk production, which will increase their income.

This step will also help in promoting silk production under the ODOP (One District, One Product) scheme, which will give a new identity to the traditional artisans of the state. The annual production of silk in the state is 400 tonnes, while the consumption has reached 3,500 tonnes. The highest demand for silk is in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi, where it has also been included under the Chief Minister’s ODOP scheme.

To make the state self-sufficient in silk production, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Resham Vikas Yojana’ this year. Silk exports have increased 28 times in the last eight years. This scheme will help in taking silk production to new heights in the state.
