Toll Tax: There is bad news for those traveling by car on highways and expressways. From today, they will have to pay more money for toll tax. In fact, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll fee by an average of 4% to 5% on highway sections across the country.

A senior official of the Highways Ministry said that the revised toll fees for motorists on national highways across the country have come into effect from Tuesday. The NHAI has separately notified the increase in toll rates for all national highways and expressways. According to the official, revising the toll fee is part of the annual exercise. It is linked to changes in wholesale price index based inflation. Every year it is implemented from April 1.
Toll collection from 855 fee plazas
There are about 855 toll plazas on the national highway network, which are charged as per the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.
around 675 are public-funded
Of these, around 675 are public-funded fee plazas and 180 are toll plazas operated by highway development companies. The revised rates will affect commuters on major routes across the country, including the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway and Delhi-Jaipur Highway.
