New Delhi: Hyundai has unveiled its upcoming hydrogen SUV, the ‘Nexo FCEV,’ at the Seoul Mobility Show in Korea. This is a fuel cell electric vehicle that claims to offer a range of over 700 kilometers. One of its standout features is that it takes only 5 minutes to refuel with hydrogen.
This SUV is not only technologically advanced, but also delivers a premium feel in terms of design and performance. Built on Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy, the car features a premium, boxy look.
Striking Look and Design
The design of the Hyundai Nexo closely resembles the brand’s premium EV, the Ioniq 5. Its front features an HTWO LED headlamp setup designed in four distinct points, a design element that is also reflected in the steering wheel. The car boasts black fender flares, a square window design, and a bold C-pillar, giving it a strong SUV side profile. Hyundai has crafted the Nexo’s interior to provide a cutting-edge digital experience. It includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which together make driving more interactive and simple. Additionally, it features a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system for a premium, theater-like audio experience.
Power and Performance
The Hyundai Nexo FCEV comes with a state-of-the-art hydrogen-based powertrain. It is equipped with a 2.64 kWh battery pack, which is charged by a 147 hp fuel cell stack. This battery powers a robust 201 hp electric motor, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds. To store hydrogen, the vehicle includes a high-pressure tank with a capacity of 6.69 kilograms, allowing it to deliver a range of over 700 kilometers.
Full Tank in Just 5 Minutes
While today’s electric cars take 30-60 minutes to charge even with DC fast chargers, the Hyundai Nexo can be refueled with hydrogen in just 5 minutes. This makes it a perfect SUV for long-distance travel.
