Solar Pump Scheme for Farmers: Farmers face many challenges in carrying out farming operations smoothly, and one of the biggest challenges is irrigation. Due to a lack of electricity, most farmers struggle to run their irrigation systems properly. To address this issue, the government has launched several schemes that help farmers install solar pumps in their fields.
Under these schemes, the government provides a 90 to 100 percent subsidy on solar pumps. Farmers can benefit from the scheme by contributing just 10 percent after applying. With this, they can irrigate their fields for 12 hours while paying only a small share of the cost.
Subsidy Available on 3, 4.5, 7.5, and 10 HP Solar Pumps
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum C-1 Solar Pump Yojana, farmers can run electric motors on solar power. According to media reports, farmers can apply for 3 HP, 5 HP, and 7.5 HP electric motors and receive subsidies. The solar plants to be installed are:
- 3 HP motor requires a 4.5 kW solar plant
- 5 HP motor requires a 7.5 kW solar plant
- 10 HP motor requires a 14.9 kW solar plant
Farmers will only need to pay 10 percent of the total cost, with the government covering the remaining 90 percent. Additionally, farmers from Scheduled Tribes will receive a 100% grant.
