PM Awas Yojna: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is an important initiative of the Government of India which aims to provide every citizen of the country with their own house. The scheme was launched in 2015 and since then millions of people have benefited from it. Recently, some important changes have been made in this scheme which aim to make it more effective and inclusive.

With these new changes, now PM Awas Yojana is expected to reach more and more people. The government claims that through these changes, now all the eligible beneficiaries will get houses for free. This is a big step which will not only help solve the housing problem but will also contribute to the overall development of the country.

What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a central sector scheme which aims to provide “Housing for All” by 2022. This scheme is divided into two major categories:
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Urban
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Rural
    The main goal of this scheme is to provide affordable housing to the people of low income group and economically weaker sections.

Major changes in PM Awas Yojana

  • Expansion of category of beneficiaries: Now apart from EWS and LIG, people of middle income group (MIG) can also avail the benefits of this scheme.
  • Increase in subsidy amount: The government has increased the subsidy amount to a maximum of Rs 2.67 lakh.
  • Increase in carpet area: The maximum carpet area for EWS category has been increased from 30 square meters to 36 square meters.
  • Online application process: Now the application process can be done completely online, making the process faster and transparent.
  • Free housing facility: Beneficiaries of certain categories will now get free housing.

Benefits under PMAY-Urban

  • In-situ slum redevelopment: Under this, slum areas are redeveloped.
  • Affordable housing in partnership: In this, affordable housing is built with the help of private developers.
  • Beneficiary-led construction: In this, beneficiaries are given financial assistance for the construction or expansion of their house.
  • Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme: Under this, interest subsidy is given on home loan.

Benefits under PMAY-Gramin

Financial assistance: Financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh.

Additional assistance: Additional assistance of Rs 12 thousand for toilet construction.

Employment: Unskilled labor of 90-95 days under MGNREGA.

Training: Mason training program.

  • Click on “Citizen Assessment” or “Citizen Registration”.
  • Enter your mobile number and get OTP.
  • Create your account by entering OTP.
