It’s necessary to update the Aadhaar card of children at the age of 5 and 15 years, Know the benefits

Right now Aadhaar card has become an important document in India. Even though it’s not an official citizenship certificate, every citizen in the country needs it because it helps access various services like banking and getting a gas connection. The Aadhaar card is essential for enrolling children in schools. Since kids get their Aadhaar cards when they’re young, it’s important to keep them updated.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) states that kids need to have their biometrics redone after they turn 5 and again at 15. This is known as the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU). During this update, their photos, fingerprints, and iris scans are refreshed in the Aadhaar system. The good news is that there’s no fee for updating biometrics for kids aged 5-7 and 15-17.

UIDAI shared in a post, “Are you aware of the Mandatory Biometric Update, or MBU? It’s essential for children to update their biometrics—fingerprints, iris, and photo—on their Aadhaar after they reach 5 and 15 years old. This process is referred to as MBU.”

According to UIDAI, updating the biometrics on children’s Aadhaar won’t interfere with registering for any competitive exams. So, if you’re applying for higher education and need an Aadhaar card, having completed the MBU won’t be an issue when filling out the application.

If you need to update the biometrics for any child in your family and haven’t done it yet, just head over to an Aadhaar enrollment center run by UIDAI. You can find this service at certain banks and post offices too.
