UPI transaction failed but amount debited: Nowadays, UPI has made our daily transactions incredibly easy. We can now make online payments using our smartphones with just a few clicks—whether we are shopping for goods or refuelling our vehicles at a petrol pump. While reliance on UPI has grown significantly and people are carrying less cash, any issue or malfunction with the service can cause considerable inconvenience.
Imagine trying to pay a shopkeeper via UPI, only for the transaction to fail or get stuck; in that situation, you might anxiously wait for it to complete or ask a friend for cash. The question arises: why do UPI payments fail? Several reasons can cause this, such as entering an incorrect UPI ID, providing the wrong recipient details, bank service outages, or internet connectivity issues.
What happens if you enter the wrong UPI PIN?
If you enter an incorrect UPI PIN, the transaction will fail. Some banks may temporarily disable UPI transactions if you enter the wrong PIN repeatedly.
What to do if you forget your UPI PIN?
If you forget your UPI PIN, you can easily generate a new one using your debit card details. To reset your UPI PIN, simply enter the last six digits of your debit card and its expiry date.
Money not credited despite payment
After completing a transaction, you should see a success message on your screen and receive a notification from your bank. If you do not receive confirmation within one hour, you can contact your bank’s customer service.
Transaction failed but money deducted from the account
Please note that if a payment fails and money is deducted from your account, the amount is refunded to your account. However, the refund process sometimes takes longer than expected; if you do not receive the refund within one hour, contact your bank’s customer service.
Transaction status shows ‘Pending ‘, but money has been deducted
If the transaction status is ‘Pending’ and the amount has been deducted from your account but not credited to the beneficiary’s account, the delay could be due to issues at the recipient’s bank. Typically, the funds are credited to the account within 48 hours after settlement is completed.
