UP Old Age Pension New Rules 2026: The government operates an Old Age Pension Scheme for the elderly in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has revised the rules for this scheme. Beneficiaries have been informed that the three installments will no longer be transferred together; instead, the pension amount will be transferred directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts every 45 days.
Each instalment will consist of ₹1,500. According to the Social Welfare Department, this new system will provide financial support to the elderly and make managing their funds more convenient. If you are an elderly individual and wish to avail the benefits of this scheme, you can easily apply online from the comfort of your home. Below, we provide details on the required documents and the application process.
Pension Rules and Amount
The government will no longer disburse a three-month instalment as a lump sum; instead, it will be transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in two separate installments. There will be a 45-day interval between these two installments, with each installment amounting to ₹1,500. Beneficiaries over the age of 80 receive a total of ₹3,000 per quarter (contributed by both the central and state governments).
For individuals aged between 60 and 80, the central government provides ₹600, and the state government provides ₹2,400, totalling ₹3,000. The government has advised beneficiaries to ensure their bank accounts are linked to their Aadhaar card and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to avoid any disruptions in pension payments.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the pension scheme, the applicant must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, the applicant should not already be a beneficiary of any other pension scheme, such as those for widows or persons with disabilities. The government has set the minimum age for eligibility at 60 years. For rural families, the annual income must not exceed ₹46,080. For families residing in urban areas, the annual income must not exceed ₹56,460.
