This Dangerously Suspenseful Netflix Horror Is Blowing People’s Minds — Never Watch It Alone in the Dark

Netflix Scariest Film –  If you were scared by the 2017 horror film ‘Veronica’, then Netflix has released another film in 2023 – ‘Sister Death’. This is not a different story, but the same origin story of the blind nun ‘Sister Death’ that was seen in ‘Veronica’. The film was released on Netflix on 27 October 2023.

What is the story?

The film begins in 1939. There lives a little girl named Narcisa in a village in Spain. The villagers believe that she sees Mother Mary, so they call her “the holy girl”. Ten years later, Narcisa grows up, becomes a nun and goes to work as a teacher in a convent, which now runs a girls’ school.

But all is not well there. There are strange noises at night, incomplete pictures on the walls, and the girls are scared. Gradually it is revealed that the convent holds an old secret—a nun named Sister Socorro suffered a terrible fate during the Civil War. She also gave birth to a daughter, but the other nuns imprisoned her. When the girl fell ill, she was not taken to the hospital, and the girl died. In grief, Socorro hanged himself.

Now Socorro’s spirit haunts the convent and seeks revenge. Narcisa begins to see all this. Narcisa finally loses her eyes during an eclipse, and only then does she see the whole truth. At the end of the film, Socorro is reunited with her daughter, and Narcisa goes on to become the same ‘Sister Death’ we saw in ‘Veronica’.

Is this story true?

No, ‘Sister Death’ is a completely fictional story. It is co-written by writer Jorge Guerricaechevarría and director Paco Plaza. Yes, the film does use the historical context of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), but the events at the convent and the story of Socorro are all made up.

However, the story of Narcisa’s childhood shown in the early part of the film is inspired by the Garabandal apparitions. This was a real incident that happened between 1961 and 1965 in the village of Garabandal, Spain. At that time, four girls (10-12 years old) claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary and Saint Michael. But this has nothing to do with the main story of the film.

Is ‘Veronica’ also based on a true incident?

This is different. ‘Veronica’ (2017) was partially inspired by a true story. In 1992, a girl named Estefanía Gutiérrez Lázaro from Madrid used a Ouija board with friends. After that his condition started deteriorating, and he died after a few months. ‘Sister Death’ is a prequel to the same ‘Veronica’, but the story of ‘Sister Death’ itself is completely fictional.

finally one thing

‘Sister Death’ isn’t just scary—it’s also sad. Socorro’s story will touch you deeply. If you like slow-burn horror, definitely watch it on Netflix. Just remember—this isn’t a true story, but it’s totally successful at scaring.
