Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana: How to Build a Rs 50 Lakh Fund for Your Daughter? Know Here

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana: If you are interested in securing your daughter’s future for her education and marriage, the Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) could be an excellent government investment option for you. This scheme was introduced as part of the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign by the central government. Presently, it offers an attractive annual interest rate of 8.2%, which is one of the highest rates among similar savings schemes. The interest earned through this account is compounded annually, leading to a significant fund growth over time.

Parents or guardians can open an account in their daughter’s name under this scheme. The minimum annual investment allowed is Rs 250, while the maximum is Rs 1.5 lakh. Although the investment period is 15 years, the account matures in 21 years. Therefore, even after discontinuing the investment, the deposited amount continues to earn compound interest for the next six years, facilitating rapid fund growth.

For instance, investing Rs 1.05 lakh annually at an 8.2% interest rate over 15 years would result in a total investment of Rs 15.75 lakh. By the end of 21 years, this amount could potentially grow to around Rs 50.27 lakh, with approximately Rs 34.52 lakh earned as interest alone, tripling your investment. On the other hand, investing the maximum Rs 1.5 lakh annually could yield a corpus of over Rs 71 lakh at maturity, assuming a constant interest rate.

Interest in this scheme is computed based on the minimum balance in the account from the 5th of each month to the month’s end. Therefore, investing before the 5th of each month or at the start of the financial year is recommended for better returns. The interest is credited to the account annually, enabling interest accrual for the subsequent year.

A significant benefit of the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is its EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax status, where investments are tax-exempt up to Rs 1.5 lakh under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. Additionally, the interest earned and the maturity amount are completely tax-free. If you wish to secure your daughter’s financial future while she is young, the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) scheme is a secure and dependable option for building a substantial corpus over time. Through consistent investments and the power of compounding, this scheme can assist you in meeting future financial requirements effortlessly.
