Watch — Shameful moment for Pakistan as their senior batter retired out for poor batting

Mohammed Rizwan

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan was humiliated in Australia on Monday. Rizwan was playing for Melbourne Renegades against Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL), Australia’s T20 league.

Mohammad Rizwan had to walk back to the pavilion

Sydney Thunder had invited Renegades to bat first in this match being played in Sydney. Rizwan was sent to bat here in the 10th over only. He remained at the crease for 9 overs and during this time he could score only 26 runs in 23 balls, which included 2 fours and 1 six.

Renegades captain Will Sutherland called him back off the field at the end of the 18th over of the innings. The Renegades needed quick runs, and Rizwan was failing to do so, so the team management decided to have him retire out. Rizwan has been heavily trolled on social media since then.

Rizwan remained at the crease for 53 balls, and the Renegades managed just 77 runs during that time.  Renegades scored 170 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Sydney Thunder won the match easily. Rain interrupted the match, forcing Sydney to be given a revised target of 140 runs in 16 overs. Sydney won the match by 4 wickets with 4 balls remaining. Chris Green (33*), Nick Maddison (30*) and captain Sam Billings (33) made significant contributions for Sydney.

Rizwan is no longer considered a good T20 batsman. This is why he hasn’t played a T20 match for his country since December 2024. He once captained Pakistan’s limited-overs team, but now it’s difficult for him to even find a place in the team. Rizwan has been criticized for his strike rate. He doesn’t score runs at a T20-appropriate strike rate, which is why he’s been dropped from the team.
