New Delhi: The weather pattern appears to be taking a turn for the worse once again, resulting in clouds gathering over most parts of North India. With a new Western Disturbance becoming active over North-West India, the threat of rain looms over several states, where strong winds are also expected. This time, the impact of this system may be felt as early as the beginning of April.

Initially, this system is expected to exert its influence over the Balochistan region of Pakistan. Subsequently,it is projected to gradually move towards India. In parts of Delhi-NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh, temperatures dropped yesterday following light drizzle accompanied by strong winds. The weather also turned pleasant. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for several states.

Warning of Heavy Rainfall in These States

According to the IMD,an alert for heavy rainfall—accompanied by thunder and lightning—has been issued for Jammu & Kashmir,Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab between April 2 and 4. Additionally,an alert for light to moderate rainfall has been issued for Haryana,Rajasthan,Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi-NCR. The impact of this weather system is expected to be most pronounced on April 3 and 4.

During these days, the region may witness not only rain but also spells of stormy weather characterised by strong winds, thunder, and lightning. Furthermore, wind speeds are projected to reach between 40 and 60 kilometres per hour. This raises the possibility of situations such as falling trees or traffic disruptions.

Meanwhile, weather conditions in the hilly regions are also expected to remain quite adverse. Snowfall or hailstorms are anticipated in the high-altitude areas. In the plains, the rainfall may bring about a mild drop in temperature.

Damage to Standing Crops

It is worth noting that this unseasonal rainfall could prove to be a bane for standing crops, potentially causing significant losses to farmers. Consequently, farmers have been advised to keep a close watch on weather updates.

According to the IMD,temperatures during the initial days of April are likely to remain below normal due to the rainfall. Consequently, hopes have been raised that a heatwave situation will be averted for the time being. However,an alert has been issued warning that the heat is expected to reach its peak only towards the end of the month.
