A major update is emerging regarding the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 was previously scheduled to begin on February 7th, with the final still scheduled for March 8th. The tournament is to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, according to a media report, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has made a significant decision regarding the ICC’s request for a venue change and to shift all matches from India to Sri Lanka.
Which step ICC can take after the step by the Bangladesh Cricket Board?
The report claims that the ICC, under Chairman Jay Shah, has begun the process of developing a new schedule. The BCB’s demand comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asked the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman due to the current situation.

On Sunday, the BCB held an emergency meeting to discuss the safety of players for matches scheduled in India. Considering the current situation and the Bangladesh government’s advice, the board concluded that it was not safe for the team to travel to India at this time. According to the previously released schedule, Bangladesh was scheduled to play three matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, sources within the Indian Cricket Board believe that relocating matches just before the tournament could pose a significant challenge for organizers and broadcasters, raising numerous issues related to logistics, ticketing, and broadcasting.

The BCB has clarified that its decision was not made to escalate any controversy, but to ensure the safety of players and support staff. The board has appealed to the ICC to consider relocating all Bangladesh matches to a safe location outside India, given the current situation.
