Less than two weeks remain until the start of the 2026 T20 World Cup, but the suspense surrounding Bangladesh’s participation continues to simmer. The Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council are at loggerheads over their matches in India. Amid this ongoing tussle, Bangladesh captain Liton Das has publicly addressed the controversy for the first time.

Litton Das has revealed some surprising informations

Speaking to the media after a Bangladesh Premier League match on Tuesday, Litton Das was asked if the home pitches were helping the team prepare for the T20 World Cup. Liton pointed directly to the current situation and said that nothing is clear yet.

Liton Das said, “Can you say for sure that we’re going to play the World Cup? From my perspective, the situation isn’t clear at all. Everyone is confused. The entire country is in a quandary right now. I understand what you’re asking, but it’s not safe for me to answer this question right now.”

The captain’s statement clearly demonstrates that the uncertainty isn’t limited to the board or the government, but there’s also a lot of confusion among the players. In fact, the BCB has formally requested that Bangladesh’s matches scheduled in India be relocated to Sri Lanka. The board states that there are serious concerns about the team’s safety in the current situation.

However, the ICC has so far been reluctant to accept this proposal. Despite several meetings, no concrete results have been achieved. The Bangladesh government is also openly supporting the BCB in this entire matter. Sports advisor Asif Nazrul has clearly stated that the Bangladesh team will not travel to India under any circumstances. The ICC has given the BCB an ultimatum to announce its final decision by January 21st, but given the government’s stance, there seems to be little room for backtracking.

Nazrul also said that the ICC cannot impose any unfair conditions through pressure. He cited the example of Pakistan refusing to play in India and the venues were changed, so Bangladesh’s demand should be viewed in the same light.

If Bangladesh ultimately withdraws from the T20 World Cup 2026, Scotland could be included in the tournament based on their current rankings. Cricket fans and players alike are awaiting the ICC’s final decision.
