Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia passed away on December 30, 2025. Due to this, two Bangladesh Premier League matches scheduled for that day were cancelled. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has now confirmed that the two cancelled Bangladesh Premier League matches will now be played in Sylhet on January 4, 2026. A BCB official said on Wednesday that the T20 tournament will now be held in Sylhet and Dhaka.
What the board has said about rescheduling the matches
Both matches scheduled for December 30th were scheduled to be played in Sylhet, but the decision has now been made to remove them from the schedule. The BCB has had to alter the entire schedule due to the tournament being halted following Zia’s death. They have apologized to cricket fans for this. They have also released a new schedule, under which all matches will now be played in Sylhet and Dhaka.

According to the original schedule, the Sylhet leg of the BPL was scheduled to end on January 3, after which the tournament was to be shifted to Chattogram. However, the BCB has had to change the schedule due to the tournament being halted following the death of national leader Begum Khaleda Zia.
Iftekhar Rahman, member secretary of the BPL Governing Council, said, “We have a two-day gap, and to accommodate those two days, we have decided to hold the league at only two venues. Therefore, we apologize to the fans of Chattogram. But given the current situation, we will have to cancel the matches in Chattogram.”
