New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad has suffered a major blow just before the commencement of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League. Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards has been ruled out of IPL 2026—a development considered a significant setback for the team.
Jack has played only one T20 International match in his career so far. However, in that very match, he managed to deeply impress both Head Coach Daniel Vettori and Captain Pat Cummins. It was for this reason that Hyderabad acquired his services for ₹3 crore during the IPL auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad is now expected to name a replacement for him.
Jack Edwards’ Record
The Australian-born Jack Edwards has played 77 T20 matches to date, in which he has scored 853 runs. In terms of strike rate, he maintains a figure of 121.50. Regarding his bowling, he has claimed 52 wickets with an economy rate of 8.32. The team had placed great faith in his all-around capabilities.
Jack Edwards is the second player in the Hyderabad squad to suffer an injury. Captain Pat Cummins is already grappling with a back injury. He is currently in the recovery phase and is set to miss the initial few matches of the season. In Cummins’ absence, Ishan Kishan will be seen taking charge of the team’s captaincy duties.
Explosive batsman Abhishek Sharma has been appointed as the vice-captain. The team has officially announced that Ishan will lead the side until Cummins makes a full recovery.
Several Fast Bowlers Ruled Out of This Season
Even before the start of the Indian Premier League, three fast bowlers have already been ruled out. This list includes Nathan Ellis of Chennai Super Kings and Sam Curran of Rajasthan Royals. Lockie Ferguson of the Punjab Kings has also stated that he will miss a significant portion of the first half of the season due to the impending birth of his child.
Meanwhile, Sam Curran has also been ruled out of IPL 2026 due to an injury. This has dealt a major blow to the Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, Lockie Ferguson has decided to miss the opening matches of the season to spend time with his family. He recently welcomed his first child, so he will not be able to play in the first half.
