Ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, the South African women’s team is set to face a major test against India. South African Cricket has announced that the Indian women’s team will tour South Africa in April for a five-match T20I series. This series will be South Africa’s final T20I assignment before the World Cup.

The series begins on April 17. The first two T20Is will be played in Durban on April 17 and 19. The third and fourth T20Is will be played in Johannesburg on April 22 and 25. The final and fifth match of the series will be played in Benoni on April 27. Cricket South Africa’s Director of National Teams and High Performance, Enoch Nkwe, described this series as extremely important.

He said that playing against a strong team like India just before the World Cup is the right challenge at the right time for the Proteas women’s team. This will provide the team with an opportunity to test its combinations, refine strategies, and improve performance under pressure. He believes this series will play a major role in sharpening the team’s World Cup preparations.

This T20 series against India will be part of South Africa’s busy international schedule. Prior to this, the South African women’s team will play a T20 and ODI series against Pakistan in February-March. Following this, the team will tour New Zealand in March-April, and upon returning from there, will play a home T20 series against India.

The Indian women’s team will also be playing a steady stream of cricket in the coming months. India will tour Australia in February-March for a multi-format series. The team will then travel to South Africa and play a three-match T20 series in England in May. The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in England from June 12.

Both India and South Africa have been placed in Group 1, joining Australia, Pakistan, and two qualifiers. South Africa finished runners-up in the last two T20 World Cups and also reached the final of the 2025 ODI World Cup. India’s best performance was in 2020, when they finished runners-up. In 2024, India was eliminated in the first round.
