Two of Team India’s legendary batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, could face major changes to the BCCI’s central contracts this year. The board is preparing to revamp its central contract structure, which could include eliminating the A+ category altogether and retaining only categories A, B, and C.
What BCCI can take as a further step?
According to media reports, if this new model is implemented, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma could now be placed in Grade B. Currently, both players are part of the A+ category. Ravindra Jadeja could also move to Grade B, while fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah could be placed in Grade A.

The BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has suggested changes to the central contract structure. The committee recommends eliminating the A+ category (₹7 crore annually) and retaining only three categories: A, B, and C. This will also lead to changes in the players’ salary structure.

According to the previous salary structure, the annual salary was fixed at ₹7 crore for the A+ category, ₹5 crore for A, ₹3 crore for B, and ₹1 crore for C. The new model is likely to revise the salaries within these grades to ensure uniform pay gaps across all categories.
The BCCI released its last central contracts for 2025 in April.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jadeja, and Bumrah were placed in the A+ category. Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, and Rishabh Pant were placed in the A grade, Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer were placed in the B grade, and Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and others were placed in the C grade.

If the new model is implemented, star players could face salary cuts. The board believes this change is necessary for both team management and financial balance. Players and cricket fans are now eagerly awaiting the upcoming central contract announcement.
