SBI: Major setback for SBI customers. An unidentified hacker group calling themselves Seriousim has reportedly obtained sensitive customer information from the State Bank of India, which includes personal details, loan applications, and account opening documents.
3,897 Users’ of SBI Personal Data Leak
The cybersecurity monitoring account Cyberpulse56 shared this claim in a post on X. Based on the account’s information, the hacker group possesses 3.75 lakh data entries (in CSV format) and 2,722 PDF documents connected to India’s largest public sector bank.
What customer information was exposed?
The leaked data reportedly contains customers’ personal information, addresses, loan applications, important documents, and other records tied to the application process. Cyberpulse56 initially reported this claim on October 16. Nevertheless, the authenticity of this data breach and its origin remain unverified.
Furthermore, the reported number of data entries doesn’t clarify exactly how many customers are impacted, since a single individual may have multiple records in the system.
There’s been no independent verification that SBI’s systems were breached or that these documents originated directly from the bank. At the time of publication, SBI had not released any official response. CyberPulse56 cautions that if this dataset proves to be authentic, the information could potentially be misused for identity theft, financial fraud, phishing schemes, and unauthorized loan applications.
