SBI ATM Charges: If you hold an SBI bank account and use a Salary Package account, this news is significant for you. SBI has made substantial changes to the limit for free transactions at other banks’ ATMs for Salary Package account holders. The new rule will come into effect on October 1, 2026. Under this rule, the number of monthly free transactions allowed at other banks’ ATMs or ADWMs (Automated Deposit and Withdrawal Machines) for SBI Salary Package account holders will be reduced from 10 to 5. Notably, these 5 transactions include not only cash withdrawals but also non-financial transactions such as balance checks and mini-statements. Once the 5 free transactions are exhausted, using another bank’s ATM will become a costly affair for the customer.
What changes from October 1?
Currently, SBI Salary Package account holders enjoy 10 free monthly transactions at other banks’ ATMs. However, starting October 1, this limit will be reduced to 5 for all types of Salary Package accounts. Consequently, if a customer withdraws cash from another bank’s ATM beyond this limit, they will be charged ₹23 plus GST; for additional non-financial transactions, the charge will be ₹11 plus GST. For instance, if a customer has already completed their 5 free transactions at another bank’s ATM within a month, a sixth cash withdrawal will incur a charge of ₹23 plus GST.
Relief for SBI customers
SBI customers also get some relief. Salary Package account holders will continue to receive 10 free monthly transactions at SBI’s own ATMs. These include both financial and non-financial transactions. Moreover, the transaction facilities at SBI ATMs for Salary Package accounts remain quite favourable in many respects. Customers holding SBI Salary Package accounts—including the Shaurya Family Pension Account, Family Savings Account, and SBI Rishte—can avail of unlimited free transactions at SBI ATMs. This facility is available at all locations, regardless of the specific account variant.
Changes for Standard Accounts
There have been no changes to the free ATM transaction limits for customers who hold an SBI Salary Package account alongside another standard SBI account. Such customers will continue to receive five free monthly transactions at other banks’ ATMs. Beyond this limit, cash withdrawals will incur a charge of ₹23 plus GST, while non-financial transactions will attract a fee of ₹11 plus GST. These charges came into effect on December 1, 2025. Notably, no specific limits are set for free transactions based on whether the location is a metro or non-metro city.
Impact on SBI Salary Package Account Holders
The most significant impact on SBI Salary Package account holders will be observed starting October 1, 2026, as the free transaction facility at other banks’ ATMs will be halved. It would be advisable for such customers to use SBI ATMs to avoid extra charges. Customers who frequently withdraw cash from ATMs during the month should take particular note of this change.
