Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 launched at ₹2.29 lakh, Check out the engine, specifications

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Royal Enfield has launched the Himalayan 440 in India at a starting price of ₹2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the company’s second motorcycle based on the 440 platform, following the Scram 440. The new Himalayan 440 carries forward the rugged, tough identity of the now-discontinued Himalayan 411. Available in three colour options, the bike is designed for riders who need a vehicle suitable for daily commutes, long-distance touring, and light off-roading.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Design

Starting with the design, the company has retained the robust aesthetic of the older Himalayan 411 rather than completely altering its identity, while integrating it with the new 440 platform. The bike is available in three colours, giving buyers options to suit their preferences.

The suspension setup features telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. This configuration is designed to ensure better handling on poor roads and uneven terrain.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 443cc Engine

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is powered by a 443cc air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It generates 25.4 bhp of power at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Suspension Travel

The new Himalayan 440 offers greater suspension travel than the Scram 440. It provides 200mm of travel at the front and 180mm at the rear, whereas the Scram 440 features 190mm of travel at the front and 180mm at the rear. The suspension allows greater front-wheel travel, giving the rider better control when navigating potholes, rocks, and uneven terrain.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: 21-inch Front Wheel

A standout feature of the Himalayan 440 is its 220mm ground clearance. This is 20mm higher than the Scram 440’s 200mm ground clearance. Higher ground clearance is particularly beneficial when encountering large rocks, deep potholes, or steep obstacles, as it reduces the likelihood of the bike’s underbelly scraping against the ground.

Additionally, the bike is equipped with 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels. This setup is common on adventure motorcycles and helps the bike handle diverse terrain. Braking duties are handled by a 300mm disc brake at the front and a 240mm disc brake at the rear.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Dual-Channel ABS

The Himalayan 440 comes with dual-channel ABS. The rear ABS is also switchable. Since many off-road riders prefer to slide the rear wheel in a controlled manner, the option to switch off rear ABS is valuable.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Features

In terms of features, the Himalayan 440 sports a semi-digital instrument console. It combines an analogue speedometer with a digital display that shows details such as fuel level, time, trip meter, and odometer readings. The bike also includes Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation module, which offers turn-by-turn navigation functionality.
