Ration Card Update: Scan Your Face to Collect Wheat and Rice, How?

Ration Card Update: Big news for Ration Card Holders. The Delhi government is gearing up to transform the Public Distribution System (PDS) into a fully hi-tech and transparent operation. Soon, the city will see the launch of the “Smart-PDS” project. This innovative system will digitize all services related to ration cards and grain distribution, effectively reducing ration black marketing and fraud. With this digital shift, ration card holders will no longer need to visit government offices, and they will be able to track grain distribution in real-time.

Grain will be accessible through QR codes and facial recognition linked to ration cards. The Smart-PDS initiative is introducing significant technological advancements in Delhi that will directly benefit the public:

Smart ration cards featuring QR codes: The current ration cards in Delhi will be upgraded to include QR codes for digital verification.

Facial Recognition: This technology will be implemented for the authentication of beneficiaries.
Relief from biometric mismatches: Many elderly individuals or those engaged in physically demanding jobs often face issues with fingerprint recognition on biometric machines. The introduction of facial authentication will be a significant advantage for these individuals.

You will be able to monitor your ration from the comfort of your home, with all services available online. The most notable aspect of this new system is that beneficiaries will no longer have to worry about the grains they are entitled to.

Live Tracking: Ration card holders will have the ability to track online when their ration was released, which government ration shop (Fair Price Shop) it was sent to, and when it will be distributed.

All services online: Services such as adding or removing a family member’s name from the ration card, uploading documents, and checking the status of new card applications will now be fully accessible online.

Fraud and black marketing will be curbed

The government claims that with the implementation of this smart system, fake ration cards, duplicate entries and black marketing of grains will be completely stopped.

To ensure this system is foolproof and before implementing it on the ground, the government has formed a 16-member User Acceptance Testing (UAT) committee. The committee includes assistant commissioners from Delhi’s 13 districts, officials from the Food Supply Department, and technical experts. This panel is closely reviewing the Ration Card Management System app to ensure it is fast, secure, and user-friendly for the general public.
