Ration Card e-KYC: If you are a ration card holder and have not completed your e-KYC, you could face a significant loss. It is mandatory for ration card holders to complete the e-KYC process, as it allows the government to verify the identities of the individuals listed on the ration card. If any family member’s e-KYC is not completed, the ration allocation corresponding to that individual will be discontinued. Consequently, completing the e-KYC for all family members listed on the ration card has been made mandatory. This process can be completed by visiting a local ration shop or by using a government-provided mobile app.
How to complete the Ration Card e-KYC
Completing the ration card e-KYC is quite simple. You can finish the process by visiting a ration shop, or alternatively, you can complete it from the comfort of your home using a mobile device.
Completing e-KYC at a ration shop
To complete the e-KYC, visit your nearest government-authorised ration shop, carrying your ration card and Aadhaar card. You will then need to verify your identity using the retailer’s e-POS (Electronic Point of Sale) machine. This involves providing a fingerprint scan or, if necessary, an iris (eye) scan. Each family member must complete their e-KYC individually. The e-KYC process at ration shops is free of charge.
Completing e-KYC via mobile
In some states, you can also initiate the e-KYC process through a mobile app. To achieve so, you can download the government’s ‘Mera e-KYC’ app or use the official app or website of your state’s Food Department. The online process typically involves verification via your Aadhaar number, an OTP (One-Time Password), and facial authentication. Please note that the online procedure may vary depending on the state and the specific facilities available.
What happens if e-KYC is not completed?
If the eKYC process is not completed for any family member, it may lead to difficulties in obtaining their share of rations. According to the rules, the ration allocation for that specific member will be discontinued. Furthermore, additional procedures will be required to complete the verification. However, there is no universal rule mandating the deactivation of a ration card solely due to the non-completion of eKYC; such policies depend on the respective state government and its relevant departments.
