RailOne App- Now Book Seasonal Tickets for Others, Check Features

RailOne App: Big news for railway passengers. Indian Railways has made a significant advancement in enhancing passenger convenience and modernizing its ticketing system. With the Railway Board’s approval, the shareable UTS season ticket feature on the RailOne app has been launched as of September 2, 2026. Previously, passengers could only purchase season tickets or monthly passes for themselves. However, this new update allows rail passengers to book season tickets for their family and friends from the comfort of their own homes.

Key Features and Rules of Shareable UTS Season Ticket

A registered user can purchase a ticket for themselves, along with a maximum of five season tickets for other eligible individuals or family members. Booking multiple season tickets for Mumbai local trains will be allowed according to existing suburban regulations, meaning only the individual whose name is on the ticket will be permitted to travel using that ticket.

When will the ticket be valid?

The ticket booked in your name will be valid from the day it is purchased, following the completion of geo-fencing verification. A shareable season ticket booked in someone else’s name will be effective and valid starting the day after the booking date.

Age Requirements

The primary user who books a ticket on the RailOne app must be at least 18 years old. The secondary passenger, or the individual for whom the season ticket is booked, must be at least 5 years old.

What will be required to be shown during the journey?

Passengers with shareable season tickets must present a printed copy of their ticket, or a valid PDF or electronic version on their mobile device, to the checking staff while traveling. It is crucial that the ticket clearly displays the passenger’s photo and details for it to be considered valid. The photo is also digitally encoded in the ticket’s QR code.

Entry will not be available on these documents

Only pay slip generated from Rail One app Booking or payment receipt A simple screenshot without full details Normal photocopy of UTS paper ticket Any document which does not contain the photograph of the passenger and the prescribed ticket details.

Two-tier ticket checking will be done through photo and QR code

The ticket checking staff will first match the photo on the ticket with the person travelling. In case of any doubt, the TTE will scan the ticket’s QR code using their handheld terminal machine. The digital photo and data displayed on the HHT screen will be matched with the passenger’s face and details.

What happens if the QR code is lost or damaged?

The QR code is the primary identifier of a shareable ticket. If the QR code on the ticket is damaged, tempered, altered, or becomes unreadable during travel and the HHT machine fails to digitally verify it, the ticket will be considered invalid.

Railway’s strict instructions to zones and checking staff

Updated HHT checking app should be provided to the checking staff. Verification should be done through the new HHT system instead of the old UTS checking app. The checking process should be implemented uniformly in all zones by providing training on rules, age limit and photo-QR code verification.
