Planning to Start a Business on Amazon? Here’s Know the Full Process

Amazon Seller Registration Process: Starting a business usually requires significant capital. However, in this digital age, you do not need a large physical store or a huge investment to launch a business. If you have a quality product, you can sell it directly to millions of customers across the country via Amazon. Becoming an Amazon seller is simple. If you wish to start your own e-commerce business on Amazon, here is a detailed, step-by-step guide.

Documents Required to Create an Amazon Seller Account

To create an Amazon seller account, you need certain documents. A GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) is essential; however, if you are selling GST-exempt items like books, you do not need GST registration. You also need a bank account; an active account is crucial so you can deposit sales proceeds directly.

A PAN card is also mandatory, as it is essential for any business. You will need an email ID and a mobile number—specifically, an active phone number and email address for the seller portal. A pickup address is also required; this can be your warehouse, office, or home address where your goods can be collected.

Register on Amazon Seller Central

Visit sell.amazon.in in your browser and click on “Register Now.” Next, enter your name, mobile number, and email address, and verify them using the OTP. Enter your company or store name. Then choose your “Display Store Name”—this is the name customers will see. Finally, enter your GSTIN and bank account details.

List Your Products

Once your account is active, list your products on Amazon. You can use the “Single Listing” method; if you have a limited number of products, click “Add” and fill in the details for each product individually. Next comes bulk listing. You need to upload catalogues for multiple products simultaneously using an Excel sheet.

SEO optimisation is crucial.
Ensure the main keyword is used in the product title. Images should be high-definition (at least 1000×1000 pixels) with a clean, white background. List all product benefits and quality features using bullet points.

Choose the right shipping and delivery model.

Amazon offers three options for delivering goods to customers: FBA, Easy Ship, and Self Ship. You can choose any one of these. With FBA, you send your inventory to Amazon’s warehouse, and Amazon handles packing, delivery, returns, and customer support. With Easy Ship, you manage packing and storage, while Amazon handles delivery. With Self Ship, you’re responsible for everything—from packing to delivery and choosing the courier partner.

Understand payment and profit calculations.

First, consider the payment cycle: Amazon transfers funds to your bank account within 7 to 14 days after the order is delivered and the return window has closed. Amazon deducts certain amounts from product sales: a referral fee (ranging from 3% to 15% depending on the category) and a closing fee based on the product’s price.

How to boost sales?

To improve your product’s search visibility initially, run low-cost ads on Amazon. Subsequently, offer discount coupons or “Lightning Deals” to attract customers. Good ratings and reviews also drive sales growth. When setting your product’s MRP, factor in manufacturing costs, courier charges, Amazon’s commission, and your profit margin.
