Paytm Wallet: Good news for Paytm users. Paytm’s parent company, One97 Communications, has submitted an application to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a prepaid payment instrument (PPI) license via its subsidiary, Paytm Payments Services Limited. This step is considered vital for the revival of wallet services after the regulatory actions against Paytm Payments Bank. The company believes this will enhance customer payment options and streamline the digital payment experience.
What advantages will come with the approval?
If Paytm secures the PPI license from the RBI, it will be able to offer digital wallet services directly through its subsidiary. This will enable customers to utilize features such as UPI payments, shopping both online and offline, bill payments, and money transfers. At present, the company depends on partner banks for certain services. The new license will greatly lessen this reliance, allowing customers to access a wider range of services on a single platform.
Previously, it was a crucial aspect of the business
Paytm’s wallet operations were once a major component of its broader consumer payments strategy. Through this service, the company attracted millions of customers and subsequently ventured into merchant payments, financial services, ticket bookings, and more.
However, due to regulatory measures against Paytm Payments Bank, many of its payment services faced disruptions, compelling the company to overhaul its entire payment system to restore the features customers had come to expect.
Significant growth was also noted in earnings
In its results for the June quarter, the company announced a 79 percent increase in net profit, reaching Rs 220 crore compared to the same quarter last year. Additionally, operating revenue rose by 28 percent to Rs 2,448 crore. The company indicated that its payment services and financial operations continued to show improvement. The return of wallet services is anticipated to further bolster its business. Meanwhile fintech company Paytm, pleased investors with its strong performance in its June quarter (Q1) results. The company’s consolidated net profit increased 79% to Rs 220 crore, compared to Rs 123 crore in the same quarter last year. The company’s earnings also increased significantly, indicating continued strength in its business. Following the strong results, the company clarified that its current focus will remain on expanding its business and strengthening its profits.
