Milk Price Hike: Big news for common people. Inflation has dealt a major blow to the common man. The Karnataka Cabinet has approved an increase in the price of milk by Rs 8 per litre. This increase applies to Nandini Milk. This move will bring the price of milk to Rs 54 per liter, compared to the current price of Rs 46 per liter. Milk prices are rising
Milk Price Hike
The increase takes effect on November 1. This is the same proposal that the government has previously approved. However, it was not announced due to the Legislative Council (LLP) elections and the existing code of conduct. But now that the code of conduct has been lifted, the government has announced its decision to raise prices. Minister Krishna Bair Gundam said that in view of the crisis faced by farmers, members of all parties in the Legislative Assembly have demanded steps to help them. Milk producers themselves have taken to the streets in protest, and cooperatives are insisting on raising prices. Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, he said, “According to these demands, the government today decided to increase the price for milk producing farmers by Rs 7 per litre. In addition, cooperative societies will also receive an increase of Rs 1 per litre.” Hence the total increase will be Rs 8 per litre. ”
The minister stated that the issue had been discussed two or three times in the cabinet. However, the decision to increase the price had now been made unanimously. He added that while farmers were protesting, representatives of their cooperative societies had met with the Chief Minister, Animal Husbandry Minister, and Cooperative Minister. They had demanded a price increase of at least 10 rupees per liter.
Although farmers had demanded a price increase of Rs 10 per liter, it was deemed that such a steep hike was not feasible. The minister said, “After a cabinet discussion today chaired by the Chief Minister, we decided on an increase of Rs 8 per liter, of which Rs 7 will go to farmers and Rs 1 to milk cooperatives.”
How much will farmers benefit?
Gowda explained that currently, farmers in Karnataka receive approximately Rs 35 per liter of milk, and the government also provides an incentive of Rs 5 per liter. The price farmers receive will now increase from Rs 35 to Rs 42 per liter. The government incentive of Rs 5 per liter will continue. He added that this means that, including the government incentive, farmers will receive a total of Rs 47 per liter. This will benefit millions of farming families.
