LPG Gas Cylinder Rules: Big news for LPG consumers. The beginning of September 1, 2026, holds significant importance for your kitchen and financial plan. Several major changes are on the horizon concerning LPG and PNG gas cylinders. Whether you are a customer of Indane, HP Gas, or Bharat Gas, these fresh regulations will directly impact your household’s kitchen expenses and cylinder deliveries. Let’s delve into the seven key changes slated to commence from September 1.
1. Alteration in prices
Oil marketing companies (IOCL, HPCL, and BPCL) establish prices for 14.2-kilogram household and 19-kilogram commercial gas cylinders every 1st of the month. Gas cylinder prices might undergo revisions (either up or down) on September 1, depending on global crude oil rates.
2. Aadhaar e-KYC deadline
The due date for completing LPG biometric e-KYC was scheduled for August 31. From September 1, customers lacking e-KYC might face challenges in acquiring cylinders, their connections could be temporarily halted, or they might receive refills at commercial prices.
3. Compulsory switch from LPG to PNG
The government is advocating for PNG (Piped Natural Gas). Under the new incentive plan, which becomes effective on September 1, if your locality or community has PNG pipeline service, transitioning from LPG to PNG will be mandatory. Failure to comply post-notification could lead to disconnection of the LPG connection.
4. Prohibition on new LPG connections
Due to uncertainties in global supply and the Middle East, a temporary restriction on new 14.2 kg domestic LPG connections remains in place. Companies may provide an update on this restriction in September.
5. 25 and 45-day rule for cylinder reservations
The regulation regarding the interval between refills will persist. In urban regions, there must be a minimum 25-day gap between cylinder reservations, while in rural areas, the gap will be 45 days.
6. 30-Day Surrender Rule for Connections
Upon transitioning from LPG to PNG, you will have 30 days to surrender your old LPG connection. However, if you relocate to a non-PNG zone in the future, you can reclaim your LPG connection using the transfer voucher.
7. Online Reservations and Delivery OTP
Companies are promoting online reservations to ensure complete transparency in the delivery process. Now, when the delivery personnel arrive, it is mandatory to provide the OTP (One Time Password / DAC Code) received on your registered mobile number; only then will the cylinder be delivered.
