LPG Booking Update: If you have an LPG connection at home, it’s important to be aware of a significant change. Due to recent tensions in the Middle East, the government has implemented several modifications regarding LPG supply and distribution. As a result of the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, there is a temporary suspension on issuing new domestic LPG connections nationwide. Currently, oil companies are not accepting new connection requests. However, they are ensuring that gas cylinders are supplied to existing customers.
Since March 2026, oil companies have not been issuing new 14.2 kg LPG connections. Therefore, those applying for new connections may experience delays. The government has also shared information regarding this situation.
Government Update on LPG Connections
The Union Petroleum Ministry has announced through social media that the issuance of new LPG connections is temporarily on hold due to the current geopolitical situation. The ministry stated that the priority for LPG distribution right now is to ensure timely refills for customers. This approach aims to prevent gas shortages for those with existing connections. The government has clarified that the ban on new connections is not permanent, and the process may resume once the situation in the Middle East stabilizes and LPG supplies are secured.
According to a report from Moneycontrol, gas companies are currently concentrating on providing timely cylinder refills to existing customers instead of issuing new connections. Customers with current LPG connections are being offered refills, and efforts are being made to reactivate long-standing unused or defunct connections.
Government Monitoring LPG Supply and Stock
Additionally, companies are requesting customers to update their KYC (Key Information Checking) status. This initiative aims to identify and eliminate fake and multiple LPG connections, ensuring that gas supplies reach the intended customers.
According to the reports, LPG supplies are currently normal. However, it is difficult to predict whether this situation will continue. Due to ongoing tensions in West Asia, there is uncertainty about the number of LPG-laden ships that will be able to reach India. Therefore, the government and oil companies are constantly monitoring current gas stocks and supplies.
If you’re currently unable to obtain a new 14.2 kg domestic LPG connection, a 5 kg or 10 kg cylinder may be an option. Some distributors, especially in larger cities, are offering 10 kg FTL (Free Trade LPG) cylinders. These can be booked and delivered to your home as needed. However, cylinder availability and booking rules may vary by city and distributor.
When will new LPG connections start being available?
The government has not yet announced a specific date for the resumption of new LPG connections. According to the Petroleum Ministry, the suspension of new connections is temporary. As soon as the supply and availability of LPG improves, new connections will be resumed. For now, people will have to wait for the government’s next announcement regarding new connections.
