New Delhi: The adage, “Whom God protects, no one can harm,” has once again proven true. A major disaster was narrowly averted on Thursday at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The incident occurred when a SpiceJet B737-700 aircraft was taxiing on the tarmac and collided with a stationary Akasa Air aircraft.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the right winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft sustained extensive damage. Additionally, the left-side horizontal stabiliser of the Akasa Air aircraft was also completely damaged. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or property.

Following the incident, the SpiceJet aircraft has been grounded at Delhi Airport. Subsequently, Akasa Air issued a significant statement regarding the mishap.
Akasa Air’s Statement Following the Incident
On the other hand, the airline’s aircraft also sustained damage and has been taken out of service. Meanwhile, an Akasa Air spokesperson stated that the Akasa Air aircraft—which was scheduled to operate flight QP 1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad—had to return to its bay on April 16, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Akasa Air aircraft was stationary when an aircraft belonging to another airline collided with it. All passengers and crew members have been safely disembarked from the aircraft.
