New Delhi: A major disaster was narrowly averted at the airport in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, when an aircraft nearly met with a serious accident during its landing. Chaos ensued at Tribhuvan International Airport the moment the aircraft touched down, as one of its wheels caught fire. There were 278 passengers and 11 crew members on board the flight.
Upon receiving reports of the fire, administrative teams rushed to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control. All passengers were safely evacuated in the nick of time. Citing police sources, an ANI report confirmed that the fire was immediately extinguished and all passengers were safely evacuated. The incident occurred early Monday at 6:45 AM.
Security Official Provides Key Details
Rajkumar Silawal, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Security at Kathmandu Airport, provided significant details to ANI. He stated that Turkish Airlines flight TK 726 was arriving in Kathmandu from Istanbul when one of its tyres caught fire during the landing process.
The fire was brought under control following a strenuous effort by the fire department team. All passengers have been safely evacuated. According to officials, a total of 278 passengers and 11 crew members were on board the aircraft. The passengers included several United Nations officials.
