New Delhi: With temperatures rising across North India these days, people have started breaking into a sweat, leaving them drenched. The heat of March has already evoked memories of the scorching conditions typically seen in May and June, exacerbating the situation. Once again, due to the activation of a Western Disturbance over North India, the weather is expected to remain unsettled for the next four days.

Several states may also experience pre-monsoon showers. In the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand, ongoing snowfall has led to a noticeable drop in temperature levels. Consequently, residents in these areas are still shivering from the cold caused by the snowfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain for several states. Read on below to find out what the weather conditions will be like in specific regions.

Chance of Rain in These States

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of pre-monsoon showers in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. These regions are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by winds gusting at speeds of 50 to 65 km/h. In the national capital, Delhi, temperatures may drop slightly due to the rain. An advisory has been issued regarding the possibility of light rain and hailstorms, which could offer some relief from the heat.

A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, warning of potential snowfall in the mountains and lightning strikes. On the other hand, states in East and Central India—such as Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha—are also expected to experience heavy rainfall. There is also a possibility of strong winds and squalls in these areas.

Possibility of Snowfall in Several Parts of Kashmir

The IMD has forecast rain in the higher-altitude regions of Kashmir. The lower and plains areas may witness spells of heavy rainfall. Snowfall was observed in the upper reaches of the famous tourist destination Gulmarg, including the Apharwat and Kongdoori areas. Additionally, snowfall occurred at Pir Ki Gali—located on the Mughal Road in South Kashmir’s Shopian district—as well as in the areas surrounding the Sonamarg–Zojila route.

Warning of Heavy Rainfall Here as Well

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Assam on March 15. Additionally, heavy rainfall is forecast in various areas of Arunachal Pradesh between March 15 and 17, and in Mizoram on March 15.
