Indian Railway New Rule: UDID Card Holders Can Now Book Seats in Specific Coaches, Know How

Indian Railways: Indian Railways has made a significant and comforting decision for individuals with disabilities. With the launch of this new rule, train travel will be more accessible than ever. Under the new regulation, passengers who hold a valid UDID (Unique Disability ID) card can now use the unreserved disabled coaches on mail and express trains.

Previously, there was some uncertainty regarding the required documents, but the Railways has now confirmed that only the UDID card will serve as adequate identification. This change will enable disabled passengers to travel more smoothly. They will be accommodated in coaches that offer special facilities, helping them avoid overcrowding and ensuring a more pleasant journey.

These passengers will benefit from this initiative

This service will be available to all individuals classified as disabled who possess a government-issued UDID card. Furthermore, passengers who qualify for a railway concession will also be permitted to travel in these designated coaches.

Which coaches are available for travel?

Specialized coaches, known as SLRD and LSLRD, have been designed for passengers with disabilities. These coaches come with dedicated accommodations and amenities to guarantee that passengers with disabilities do not encounter any challenges during their travels.

What are the essential requirements?

The key requirement is that passengers must possess a valid UDID card along with a valid ticket. Traveling without a ticket will not be allowed. The Railways has also stated that strict measures will be enforced against those who misuse the disabled coaches. The aim of the new Railways regulations is to ensure that only those who genuinely need these facilities can take advantage of them.

Step 1: First, open the IRCTC website or app and log in with your user ID and password. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to register first.

Step 2: After logging in, go to the “My Account” or “My Profile” section. Here you will find the option to manage your personal details.

Step 3: Now go to the “Master List” section to add a new passenger. Here, you’ll need to fill in your name, age, and other details. Most importantly, select the “Divyang” or “Person with Disability” option and enter your UDID card number.

Step 4: The UDID card details are verified. Once verified, your profile is ready, eliminating the need to re-enter details each time.

Now whenever you book a ticket and select that passenger from the Master List, the system will automatically show you the coach options with the relevant concession and facilities.
