Medicine Price Hike: As soon as the new financial year started in the country, inflation hit the public. The government increased the prices of more than 900 essential medicines from April 1. The Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority has announced a 1.74 percent increase in the prices of more than 900 medicines. The medicines whose prices have been increased include medicines for diseases like diabetes, heart disease, painkillers, critical infections, fever, etc.

Who increases the price

According to the provisions of the Drugs Order, 2013, the price of all scheduled medicines is revised on the basis of the Wholesale Price Index. This revision happens every year. In the financial year 2024-25, the price of medicines was increased by 0.00551 percent on the basis of WPI. This time the prices of tablets like Azithromycin, Ibuprofon, Diclofenac, Metformin, Hydrochloride, Acyclovir have been increased.
