Nowadays, Indian cinema is making waves across the globe. While, on one hand, *Dhurandhar: The Revenge* has shattered every box office record, films like *Accused* and *Mardaani 3* are currently trending on Netflix. However, the film generating the most buzz right now is a Prime Video release that received a lukewarm reception in theaters but, upon its arrival on OTT, has successfully secured a spot in the Global Top 10. We are talking about veteran director Vishal Bhardwaj’s new film, *O Romeo*.
The Return of Shahid and Vishal: A ‘Hattrick’ Reunion
Vishal Bhardwaj is best known for his Shakespearean trilogy—*Maqbool*, *Omkara*, and *Haider*. In *O Romeo*, he has once again joined forces with his favorite actor, Shahid Kapoor. Following their collaborations on *Kaminey*, *Haider*, and *Rangoon*, this duo returns to the screen to present yet another dark and intense narrative.
What is the Story?
Set against the backdrop of 1990s Mumbai, the film features Shahid Kapoor as a ruthless mafia hitman—a master of the blade. The plot takes a twist with the entry of Tripti Dimri’s character. She seeks vengeance against a dangerous gangster based in Spain, who murdered her husband.
Interestingly, the film is reminiscent of Mad Max Fury Road. Just as Tom Hardy’s character aids a strong-willed woman in that film, Shahid’s character here steps in to assist Tripti. However, the twist lies in the fact that Tripti’s character is no helpless damsel in distress; rather, she is an enigma in her own right.
Alongside *Animal*-fame Tripti Dimri, the film features Avinash Tiwary (who previously co-starred with her in *Bulbul*) and veteran actor Nana Patekar in pivotal roles. The film’s style resembles a modern ‘Western revenge’ drama, featuring a potent blend of romance and crime.
