Education News: Traditionally, in India, parents dream that their child becomes a doctor or engineer, because these professions are considered prestigious in the society and are also financially stable. For this, lakhs of students prepare for difficult entrance exams like IIT-JEE and NEET, which get them admission in these prestigious institutions.
However, recently a Harvard professor has questioned this. While discussing ‘Future.AI: The New Classroom’ at the India Today Conclave, he said that it is not necessary for the future of children that they become doctors or engineers. He believed that in the coming times, traditional career options may change due to technological changes and fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the professor, children should also be oriented towards these new and developing fields, so that they can be better prepared for the future.
It emphasized the importance of technical education, data science, artificial intelligence, and other emerging fields. He believed that in the coming times, these fields can become more effective and stable than traditional professions. Apart from this, he also said that children should be given the freedom to choose the career direction according to their interests and abilities, and not only traditional professions should be emphasized.
This approach underlines the need for a significant change in the Indian education system, which has more flexibility and diversity so that students get the opportunity to choose a career in accordance with their skills and interests.
According to Professor Anand, Indian parents need to adopt new approaches by leaving traditional career options for their children. He believes that in the future with technological and social development, some important skills will become more important, which only humans can do and which are different from machines.
Here are some important skills, which will be important to focus on:
1. Creativity – The future will require innovation and new ideas, which machines cannot generate. Creativity is related to a person’s ability to think, experience and explore new paths.
2. Judgment – Deciding what is right and wrong, and understanding what would be the right step in a particular situation. This is an ability that machines cannot understand, because it is based on human experience and discretion.
3. Human Emotion & Empathy – Understanding others, respecting their emotions and developing a deep understanding with them. This is a human ability that AI (Artificial Intelligence) cannot understand.
4. Psychology – Understanding human behavior and acting based on its response. This is important in working with people and giving them the right direction.
5. Arts & Music – The importance of art and music is very high for developing creativity. These activities promote mental development and also improve emotional understanding.
6. Skill-based Work –
Some jobs, such as plumbing, dancing, construction work, and other physical tasks, are areas that AI and robots cannot do. The importance of these skills is going to increase even more in the future.
