DA Hike 2026: When Will the Modi Government Announce a 4% DA Increase? Know Here

DA Hike News: Central government employees continue to await news about a dearness allowance increase. An announcement was anticipated today, but it hasn’t materialized yet.

The Cabinet typically convenes on Wednesdays. This Wednesday’s meeting didn’t happen, which had raised hopes for a dearness allowance announcement for central government employees. Since that meeting was cancelled, many are wondering when the increase will be officially announced. Let’s explore what we know.

When might the dearness allowance increase be announced?

While dearness allowance increases are usually announced during Cabinet meetings, this isn’t always the case. The Finance Ministry has the authority to make such announcements independently, meaning an increase could be declared either later this week or next week. That said, it appears the announcement may come at the upcoming Cabinet session.

The next scheduled Cabinet meeting is set for Wednesday, October 28th. An announcement could happen then, unless the Finance Ministry decides to make it public beforehand.

What could the dearness allowance increase be?

Experts anticipate a dearness allowance increase between 3 and 4 percent this time around. A 3 percent bump would bring the rate to 63 percent, while a 4 percent increase would push it to 64 percent. The actual increase hinges on the 12-month average inflation index. For January adjustments, the government considers index figures from the preceding 12 months, spanning January through December.

The central government increases the dearness allowance of central government employees twice a year. Once at the beginning of the year, i.e., January, and again in July. However, the January increase is usually announced in March or April, while the July increase may be announced in September, October, or November.
