CTET 2026 Exam Postponed – Application Window Extended to September 1 at ctet.nic.in

CTET Exam Postponed 2026: Important news has emerged for students appearing for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the exam scheduled for September 6, 2026. Along with this, the application window for candidates has also been extended. CBSE informed candidates of the postponement by issuing a notice on its official website, ctet.nic.in.

Can applications be submitted until September 1?

This presents a great opportunity for candidates who were previously unable to apply for the CTET exam. The application window will remain open from August 25 to September 1, 2026. Candidates can apply online via the official site, ctet.nic.in, within these specified dates. Those who have already applied do not need to fill out the form again. Additionally, candidates now have more time to prepare. The application deadline has been extended to September 1, 2026, following a directive from the Supreme Court.

When will the new exam date be announced?

According to the notice issued by CBSE, the new exam date will be announced after the application portal closes. The exam city slip will be available for download 10 to 15 days prior to the exam date, and the admit card will be available 4 days before the exam.

Candidates are advised to keep checking the official website, ctet.nic.in, for updates. A total of 21 editions of the CTET have been conducted so far. The result of the 21st edition of the CTET was declared on March 30, 2026.

Why was the exam postponed?

The notice states that “the Hon’ble Supreme Court, in its decision regarding Review Petition (Civil) Diary No. 53434/2025 arising from Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025, has emphasised that eligible teachers should be given a fair opportunity to fulfil the legal requirement of acquiring the prescribed TET qualification.”

In view of the above and the broader interests of the candidates, it has been decided to grant an opportunity to all such eligible candidates who were previously unable to avail themselves of the chance to apply.
