Specifically, Canara Bank has updated its mobile super app, ‘Canara ai1’. Additionally, Canara Bank has introduced a new FCNR deposit scheme for NRI customers. Meanwhile, the RBI has imposed a monetary penalty on the bank for non-compliance with record-keeping regulations. Let us look into these details.

Canara ai1 App Updated

Canara Bank has rolled out a significant update for its ‘Canara ai1’ mobile banking app. This is the bank’s dedicated banking super app, allowing customers to easily access a wide range of banking services via their mobile phones. The app has been updated to make digital banking simpler and more convenient, enabling customers to use numerous banking services from the comfort of their homes. You can easily download this app from the Google Play Store.

New FCNR(B) Deposit Scheme for NRI Customers

Canara Bank has launched a special FCNR(B)—Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank)—deposit scheme for NRI customers. Eligible customers can make deposits in foreign currency. According to available information, the scheme offers attractive interest rates on US Dollar deposits and tax benefits in accordance with applicable regulations. Therefore, it is advisable to check the bank’s official terms and conditions before investing or making a deposit.

RBI Imposes Penalty on Canara Bank

The RBI has taken action against Canara Bank. The RBI has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹41.8 lakh on the bank for violating regulations on the timely uploading of KYC records. This penalty relates to regulatory compliance; it does not directly affect the accounts of the bank’s general customers. Customers need not worry about any deductions or changes to their bank accounts due to this matter.

What should customers do regarding KYC?

The KYC process is crucial in banking. Customers should ensure the bank holds accurate, up-to-date KYC records and personal information. If the bank requests KYC completion, customers should carry out the process only through official banking channels. Sensitive information such as OTPs, ATM PINs, CVVs, internet banking passwords, or UPI PINs should never be shared with unknown individuals.

A look at Canara Bank’s financial performance

Information regarding Canara Bank’s financial performance indicates robust global business and credit growth. Additionally, the bank’s asset quality has improved. In the banking sector, metrics like GNPA (Gross Non-Performing Assets) and NNPA (Net Non-Performing Assets) are essential for understanding a bank’s bad loan situation. GNPA represents the bank’s total bad loans, whereas NNPA reflects the loan status after accounting for provisions.

Exercise caution while using digital banking

Online fraud has increased alongside the advent of mobile banking facilities. Therefore, exercise caution when using ‘Canara ai1’ or any other banking app. Always download apps exclusively from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store; downloading a banking app from an unknown link can lead to problems. Do not share OTPs, UPI PINs, etc., with anyone. If someone calls claiming to be a bank official, do not disclose banking information to them.
