Vande Bharat Express: Good news for railway passengers. The Vande Bharat Express has emerged as the most favored train of the day. This is the reason why trains in this category run on most routes with almost full occupancy. Indian Railways is now gearing up to link even smaller towns with these luxurious trains. Operations are set to commence soon.
The Vande Bharat chaircar currently in operation is being produced at ICF, Chennai, while the first sleeper version was constructed at BEML, Bengaluru. Therefore, while these luxury trains have been manufactured in South India, production is also starting in North India. The initial 16-coach Vande Bharat chaircar rake was produced at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala. This trainset was launched on March 31, 2026, making the Kapurthala unit one of the manufacturing sites for Vande Bharat trains.
Moreover, the Bareilly Coach Factory will also be involved in the production of Vande Bharat trains. The Ministry has already initiated preparations for this. Consequently, Vande Bharat production will kick off at two different locations.
This cutting-edge trainset, featuring Alstom’s propulsion system, has been set up at the Kapurthala Coach Factory. The train will undergo oscillation trials prior to entering regular service. These evaluations will examine the train’s ride quality, safety measures, and dynamic performance.
What started with just two Vande Bharat trainsets in 2018 is now advancing swiftly. A total of 97 Vande Bharat chair car trains have been manufactured to date, all at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. With the new production facility in Kapurthala, the manufacturing of high-speed trains in the country is expected to speed up.
Incidents of the country’s high-tech train, the Vande Bharat Express, colliding with animals are being reported frequently. In such cases, the nose of the train is also damaged. In response to this problem, Indian Railways has taken significant steps to enhance safety. Fencing has been installed along 16, 398 kilometers of railway tracks across the country. This will prevent cattle and animals from entering the tracks and ensure safer operations.
