If you also use UPI daily on apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm, then this news is very important for you. From August 1, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will bring new rules. These rules may change the way UPI transactions are done. The goal of the new rules is to make the UPI system faster, safer, and more reliable. These changes will also help reduce the load on UPI servers and prevent issues like frequent outages.

Big Changes in UPI from August 1, 2025

From August 1, 2025, many new rules will be applied to UPI. These rules are made to make the UPI system faster, safer, and more stable for users. The changes will control how many times users can do certain actions on UPI apps in a day.

Limit on Balance Check

Now, users will be allowed to check their bank account balance only 50 times a day on each UPI app. This rule is made to stop users from checking their balance again and again in a short time, which puts extra load on the UPI system.

Limit on Viewing Linked Bank Accounts

Users can now check which bank accounts are linked to their mobile number only 25 times a day. This step is also taken to reduce extra traffic on the UPI server.

Fixed Time Slots for AutoPay Payments

Payments for subscriptions like Netflix, SIP, and other auto-debit services will now be processed only during non-busy hours. These time slots are before 10 AM, between 1 PM to 5 PM, and after 9:30 PM. This change will help in better handling of payment load during the day.

Limit on Checking UPI Payment Status

If a payment gets stuck or fails, users can now check its status only three times. Also, there should be a gap of at least 90 seconds between each check. This rule is meant to stop users from pressing refresh again and again, which affects server speed.

Real Name Will Be Shown Before Payment

Since June 30, 2025, before completing a UPI payment, the app will show the real name of the person or business as registered with the bank. This will help users avoid sending money to the wrong person and will reduce fraud cases.

New Chargeback Limit

As per the rule made in December 2024, users can now claim a chargeback only 10 times in 30 days. Also, only 5 chargebacks can be made with the same person or company. This step is to avoid misuse of the system.

Why These Changes Are Made

UPI handles about 16 billion transactions every month. In April and May, many people faced problems like slow service and payment failures. The main reason was that users were checking balance too often and refreshing failed payments again and again. These actions were putting too much pressure on the UPI server. The new rules will stop such actions and help the system work faster and better for everyone.
