UPI is now the most popular means of transaction. You don’t have to carry cash. You can make payments by scanning the QR code. But there is a problem. If the UPI service is down or not working for some reason, then it is quite difficult. The transaction gets stuck in the middle.

A few days ago, transactions were completely down due to UPI being down. Online payments were also not possible. In this case, what can we do to refund the payment if it didn’t go through? This is a guide on how to refund money when using UPI.

1. Check the balance

If the payment is not made or blocked through UPI, then first you need to check the balance of the bank account. If the money is not deducted from the account, the balance remains as it was, then there is no problem.

2. Don’t worry if the money is deducted

If the money is deducted from the account, but the recipient does not receive the money, then you should understand that the money is being processed. Usually, the money is automatically refunded within 24 hours or a maximum of three days. If the money does not arrive, then you need to contact the bank.

3. Keep the UPI transaction ID

Every UPI transaction has a transaction ID, which may be required to track the payment. If the money is blocked, the customer can use this ID to know the current status of the transaction with the bank.

4. Contact the bank’s customer care

The transaction ID of the failed transaction should be shared with the bank’s customer care. They will inform the customer about the status of the refund and instruct them on how to track it.

5. It is better to carry cash

Paying through UPI is easy and fast. However, it requires internet. So if you don’t want to face any problems in case of need, you should carry some cash or at least a debit or credit card. So that you have other payment options at hand.

Although UPI transactions are easy, fast and secure, sometimes the service can be disrupted due to technical issues. In such a situation, it is wise not to panic but patiently check your bank balance, save the transaction ID and contact the bank’s customer service if necessary. Also, you should always keep some cash or alternative payment methods with you to avoid such inconveniences.
