ThumbPay – Many people in India may have seen people making UPI payments by scanning QR codes with their smartphones, but what about those without mobile phones? For such people, the startup Proxgy has now unveiled a product called ThumbPay, which allows payments using biometric authentication. This means you can make payments at shops, petrol pumps, and showrooms simply by using your thumb.

This system integrates Aadhaar authentication with UPI. There’s no need to connect a phone, card, or wallet. Customers simply need to place their thumbprint on the device to make a payment.

Payment process in ThumbPay?

To make a payment with ThumbPay, customers must place their thumb on the device, which will then be scanned. The Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) system will first verify the individual using the thumb. Once the authentication is complete, the UPI system will complete the bank-to-bank payment. Customers will not need a QR code, smartphone, or cash.

The company states that the device features a certified fingerprint scanner with fraud detection. It also features a small camera for verification purposes. It also features UV sterilization for hygiene.

To further enhance the device, it supports QR codes and NFC payments. UPI, Soundbox, and 4G are also supported. It also features WiFi connectivity.

ThumbPay Price

ThumbPay costs around 2,000 rupees. It can also operate on battery power, making it suitable for use in large showrooms, small shops, and even village shops.

It essentially connects directly to the bank account linked to Aadhaar. Anyone with a bank account linked to their Aadhaar card can then make payments by placing their thumbprint on the device. According to reports, the device has completed pilot trials. It now needs to undergo compliance checks from UIDAI and NPCI. Once security approval is received, Proxgy will distribute it step by step.
