Indian Railway Tatkal Ticket Booking – Indian Railways is also going to change its ticket booking rules. People will now have to follow new rules when purchasing tickets from the counter. Indian Railways has made a major change for passengers purchasing Tatkal tickets. According to the new rules, an OTP (one-time password) will be sent to your mobile phone when purchasing a Tatkal ticket from the counter.
After sharing this OTP, Tatkal tickets will be issued from the counter. This will eliminate any problems. Most importantly, no tickets will be issued without the passenger’s mobile number. This decision was specifically taken to curb the ongoing malpractices of touts.
Rule Implemented as a Trial
Indian Railways first implemented this rule on a few selected trains as a trial. The Railways have seen positive results. After making Aadhaar linking mandatory for online Tatkal tickets in July, this strictness is now being implemented at offline counters. Indian Railways has stated that this new system will be implemented on all trains across the country in the coming days.

In addition, when a passenger submits a reservation form at the counter, they will be required to enter their mobile number. If the booking is being done on Tatkal, an OTP will appear on the passenger’s phone upon submission. The counter clerk will enter this OTP into the system, and only then will the ticket be confirmed. If the OTP is incorrect or not provided, the ticket will not be issued.
What is the purpose of this change?
Often, brokers would sell a large number of Tatkal tickets, depriving those in need. But this will no longer be the case. Now, because tickets will only be processed using an OTP sent to the mobile number, brokers will not be able to use fake numbers. The Railways hopes that this will ensure that Tatkal tickets are available to passengers who truly need them.
