SBI YONO: Big news for State Bank of India customers. A misleading message claiming to be from the SBI Yono app is spreading on social media, suggesting that users can update their Aadhaar by downloading an APK file.
According to a post by PIB Fact Check on social media platform X, this message is circulating widely, falsely stating that users must download and install an APK file included with the message to update their Aadhaar. The post also warns that failure to update Aadhaar will result in the blocking of the SBI YONO app. PIB Fact Check confirmed that this assertion is entirely false, and SBI has not released any official communication regarding this matter.
Moreover, users are strongly advised against downloading such APK files and entering any personal information, including banking or Aadhaar details, into them. If you encounter such messages, please report them to “report.phishing@sbi.co.in” for necessary action.
This situation underscores the increasing prevalence of phishing attacks aimed at banking customers, especially via messaging platforms like WhatsApp. Banks consistently remind individuals to be vigilant about such messages, as fraudsters frequently take advantage of account holders’ anxieties to extract sensitive information and, in some instances, drain their accounts.
Furthermore, with the rise of digital banking and the popularity of apps like YONO, the government agency has urged users to remain cautious of unsolicited messages and to rely solely on verified updates from official sources.
