New Delhi: The Reserve Bank is going to issue new 500 rupee notes once again. Along with this, RBI will also issue 10 rupee notes. There is a possibility of a big change in both these notes. According to the statement issued by the central bank, new notes will be issued with some changes and it will not have any effect on the Rs 10 and Rs 500 currency currently in circulation.

Design of these notes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday said it will soon issue Rs 10 and Rs 500 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series bearing the signature of new Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The central bank said in a statement that the design of these notes is similar in all respects to the existing banknotes of Rs 10 and Rs 500 of the Mahatma Gandhi (new) series. This means that no major changes will be made in the new notes.

What will happen to the old notes

RBI has clearly stated that despite the release of new notes, all the banknotes of Rs 10 and Rs 500 denominations issued earlier by the Reserve Bank will continue to be legal tender. This means that both types of existing currencies will continue to operate in the market in the same way as they are doing now. Malhotra took over as RBI Governor in December 2024. He replaced Shaktikanta Das, who was the governor for 6 years.

New notes of 100 and 200 rupees will also come

Last month, RBI had announced the release of new Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes. This means that soon you may see many new notes in the market. According to the announcement made so far, the Reserve Bank will issue new notes of Rs 10, Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500. The signature of the new Governor Malhotra will be visible on all these notes.

Then the color and size will change

Earlier, after demonetization, RBI had issued new 500 rupee notes, which had major changes in their color and size. Now once again the Reserve Bank is going to issue new 500 rupee notes. Major changes will be made in the color, size, theme, location of security feature and design of these notes. The current 500 rupee notes are of stone grey colour, but a new colour may be issued. The size of the new 500 rupee notes will be 66 x 150 mm.
