Rah Veer Yojana: The government has made a significant decision to enhance support for individuals injured in road accidents in the capital city, Delhi. The Delhi government has chosen to adopt the central government’s Raahveer scheme. This initiative aims to ensure that injured individuals are swiftly transported to the hospital during the critical golden hour following a road accident.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta mentioned that citizens who promptly take seriously injured individuals to the hospital will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 along with a citation. The government believes that offering financial incentives and legal protection will motivate more people to step forward and assist without fear.

What is the goal of the Rah Veer scheme?

The main goal of the Raahveer scheme is to lower the mortality rate in road accidents. The government asserts that if an injured person is taken to the hospital within the golden hour, their chances of survival significantly improve. However, many individuals hesitate to assist accident victims due to concerns about police involvement or legal issues. This scheme aims to reduce such fears, encouraging everyday citizens to act in the spirit of humanity.

Who qualifies for the Rs 25,000 reward?

According to the scheme, anyone who provides immediate help to a seriously injured road accident victim and transports them to a hospital or trauma center within the golden hour will qualify for the reward. Each eligible individual will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000 for their assistance. Even if multiple people help in the same accident, the maximum reward remains Rs 25,000. Additionally, the top 10 road heroes recognized throughout the year will be awarded a special national-level prize of Rs 100,000 each along with a citation.

How will the selection and payment be done?

To make this scheme effective, an evaluation committee will be formed at the district level. This committee will include the District Magistrate, Senior Police Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and Regional Transport Officer. The reward amount will be transferred online directly to the bank accounts of selected pedestrians. The entire process will be recorded on a digital platform, and a separate bank account will be maintained for this purpose.

The central government will also provide initial grants to states under this scheme. This scheme is in accordance with the Good Samaritan Rules notified under the Motor Vehicles Act 2019. Under these rules, citizens who voluntarily provide assistance are provided legal protection, ensuring they do not face any unnecessary questioning or action.
