Ten years ago, the central government launched a historic scheme. At the time, hardly anyone would have imagined that a single government scheme would completely transform the future of millions of young people. Let’s understand this through an inspiring story: When Mohan, a resident of a small village in Bihar, went to college, his fellow students mocked him because he was an average student. After graduating, he struggled to find a job, but found only disappointment. Then, one day, on social media, Mohan learned about a central government scheme called the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

Mohak applied for the scheme and received free training in a course of his interest. Now, he is a successful electrician certified by Skill India and is earning well. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana on July 15, 2015, and since then, more than 16 million young people have benefited from this skill development scheme, making their futures brighter. More than 43% of youth received placements after this training. If you haven’t yet benefited from this scheme, register today, as the central government is soon launching PMKVY 4.0.

What is the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and its objective

The Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in 2015. The main objective of this scheme is to develop the skills of youth by providing them with short-term training, thereby increasing employment opportunities and enabling them to start self-employment. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) provides skill training and certification to youth under this scheme.

This scheme has been successfully launched in three phases so far, and now PMKVY 4.0 is being launched. Three types of training are offered under this scheme: short-term training, special projects, and recognition of prior learning.

The key objectives of PMKVY include enhancing the skills of youth through training, reducing the unemployment rate in the country, and creating more employment opportunities. The scheme encourages self-employment and provides skill training opportunities to economically disadvantaged individuals. Special attention is given to people from backward, border, tribal, and Naxal-affected areas.

PMKVY’s tremendous benefits and incentives

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana offers many powerful benefits to youth, securing their future. Free training is available from the central government, and placement assistance is provided, which rapidly increases employment opportunities. A certificate is also awarded upon completion of the training. Many courses under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) also offer a stipend of up to ₹8,000 per month.

Other benefits include online counseling, accident insurance for all beneficiaries, an induction kit (T-shirt, jacket, bag), and a certificate valid throughout India. Some areas also offer self-employment support and the opportunity to participate in interviews and job fairs. Students are also taught soft skills, digital literacy, and financial literacy during the training.
